Veteran Friendly –
What does it really mean?
In 2008, the Post 9/11 GI bill went into effect which greatly reduced the economic obstacles for veterans desiring to complete their college education. Higher Education institutions were advised to prepare for the nearly 2 million military veterans who would be returning from war in Afghanistan and Iraq. How can we and should we prepare our campuses to ease the transition from military servicemember to student?
Join our panelists in a thoughtful discussion around these issues
John Powers, URI Graduate and Founder of Operation Vets, an organization dedicated to supporting veterans and their families
Bob Frederick, Military Transfer Advisor, Charter Oak State College, whose mission includes creating policies that support military and veteran students including the recognition of credit for military experience
Dr. Julie Fenster, Clinical Psychologist, Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, The University of Connecticut School of Social Work, who has worked extensively with veterans
